Our History

Bruce Clan
The Bruce clan’s association with Scotland can be traced back to their arrival in the country during the early 12th  century. In those 900 years, they have had many historic chapters including titles to the throne – most famous of which would be King Robert the Bruce in the 14th century.

W P Bruce
W P Bruce (William) started farming in Perthshire in 1898 with the support of a wealthy benefactor. At the beginning he was a tenant farmer (renting the land). He grew cereals and potatoes and had notable success with blackface sheep.

W T Bruce
W T Bruce (Willie) took over the lease from his Father at Balmyle (where operations for Bruce Farms are based) in 1937. Like his Father, he too enjoyed success with livestock, both cattle and sheep; while continuing to farm the land in the traditional manner.

W P Bruce
W P Bruce (Bill) became the third generation to continue farming here over 50 years ago. Livestock became represented by the Balmyle Charolais herd of cattle with much success to this day. Vining Peas were introduced to the land rotation in the 70’s and Blackcurrants in the 80’s; thus providing diversity and greater scale to the business.

C G W Bruce
C G W Bruce (Geoff) joined Bruce Farms in 1993 where both he and his father (Bill) work together as co directors. Geoff added Soft Fruit to the business in the 90’s again increasing diversity. Another milestone was the joint purchase of Dundee Cold Stores Ltd in 2007.

The Future
There are now 6 farms owned by the Bruces' while land is rented in the surrounding area from a further 160 farms. From a modest beginning over a century ago; progress at Bruce Farms has been steady and strong. The plan is to continue this progress for the next one hundred years!
